L.A. Honda World Racing Adds Spencer Bucknum to Racing Team
LOS ANGELES, Calif. – L.A. Honda World Racing is proud to announce that Spencer Bucknum of San Luis Obispo, California has joined its team. Bucknum will be racing the Honda Performance Development (HPD) Honda Civic Si, in the SRO Motorsports TC America Series in the TCA class for 2022.
Bucknum is an open wheel racing champion who recently competed in Formula Pro USA's West Coast-based F4 Western Series in 2020 and 2021. Bucknum is determined to compete in the 2022 SRO TC America Championship in an effort to catapult his motorsport career.
"The transition to TC racing from Formula 4 will definitely be a new challenge,” said Bucknum. “It's an honor to run with the L.A. Honda World Team and to keep the Bucknum/Honda legacy alive. I hope to bring great success next season and I know I will have all the resources I need to be successful in this new series."
The Bucknum family has a rich tradition in sports car and open wheel racing. His grandfather, Ronnie Bucknum,was the first ever driver to compete for Honda in Formula One and his father, Jeff Bucknum, competed twice in the Indianapolis 500 with a Honda powered engine.
"Spencer has a unique story in that his passion for motorsports is without question in his DNA,” said L.A. Honda World Racing's Team Principal Mario Biundo. “Not many can say they are a third-generation racer with an extensive family history within the sport. We are honored to have him and will provide him the best at every race so he can compete for a championship.”
The 2022 SRO Motorsports TC America Series calendar will be a challenge for Bucknum. Along with navigating a new race car, racing circuits and mindset of long term strategy in the sprint format, he will also be competing with returning drivers.
"I think it's smart for a driver like Bucknum to take his learnings from the Western F4 Series and challenge himself in the TCA class,” said John Whiteman, HPD Commercial Manager. “Multiple format seat time and winning championships is the best way to get your name recognized and move up the motorsports ladder.”
